Talk. They’re Listening.

Talk to Your Kids

Most teens in Hawaii don’t drink and the number one reason they give for not drinking is they don’t want to disappoint you.10 They are listening. So, what you say and do are the most important factors in keeping your kids safe from alcohol.

But, the pressures to drink can seem overwhelming to teens. What can you say to help prepare your kids to make good choices? Before you talk to your teen, be prepared to listen. Setting expectations and writing your family rules can help guide your teen through difficult situations. Prepare your conversation, while keeping yourself open for questions, especially if you yourself are a drinker.
